STEVEN BOERS

Book 1: A Game of Pawns
Xander has always struggled to accept change, but when a maniac with an honest-to-goodness sword singles him out and threatens his life, change will be the least of his worries.
Saved by an assassin, Xander learns that he’s a pawn in a game of life, death, and revival. To win, Xander must learn to form alliances he must one day break, dive headlong into fights with people possessing strange powers, and try to resist falling for the girl that just tried to kill him.
If he’s ever to return home, he’ll have to face the other players in battles to the death, but is he really willing to take a life to save his own?

Book 2: A Game of Knights
Stranded in a game of life, death, and repeat, Xander strides into his second round with a confidence that is quickly snuffed out. Though he begins as his own worst enemy, others come into the fray, and fear sets in as Xander witnesses a man tear another apart with his bare hands. He’ll need more than courage and determination if he hopes to see this cycle to its end.
To make matters worse, rumors of a powerful fire user has spread, and is making anxious waves throughout the map. He introduces himself by attacking a graveyard, killing most, and inviting the frightened survivors to join him.
Enraged, Saris intends to put an end to the fire user, and Xander insists on joining the manhunt.
When they find their quarry, they don’t find a team
– they find an army.

Book 3: A Game of Rooks
The sting of death wasn't something Xander expected to feel more than once, but now, death seems to have it out for him. Old allies turn into foes. New ones slip through his fingers. It seems this death game is growing crueler with each cycle.
When a crumbling building throws him into the path of an old enemy and a new player, Xander is thrust into the role of a mentor. But every move he makes reminds him how far he falls short of Saris – and time is running out.
The arena is smaller, snow is falling, and a fort on the ocean becomes the key to winning the round. If Xander wants a shot at finishing the game, he’ll have to take it from the larger team defending it – before the lions come and finish the cycle for him.

Book 4: A Game of Kings
The game is beaten, but a new one has just begun. Death is permanent again, and Xander must accept that the lives he takes are for keeps. There are no second chances.
Hope is tested as Xander must overcome the battles of the arena. His opponents? Other winners of the game, and strange creatures, including the mountainous lions that were so feared in the cycles.
Somehow, Xander must live long enough to plan his escape. But finding a way out of his cage won’t be enough - he’s in a completely different world.

The Ruination Game
About Making The Series
About Making The Series
I've had multiple series planned for years. Eventually, I'd like to write them all. The Ruination Game is actually one of the last series that I thought about, but I suppose that's how it goes - I was excited to do the project. Writing the series fueled that excitement, and soon, I was feeding the fire to what I was making.
I started writing book 1 in little scenes, but not knowing how to connect them - or if I would connect them. It was a bit of a struggle to understand my own process, but once I did, things started to click in place. Before I knew it, I finished the book's first draft. Books 2-4 had some touch and go moments, where I got stuck, but they all went quite a bit faster with practice. COVID helped - I was home a lot more and used that time to write.
Book 4 technically marks the end of the story, but there is a 3 book after-series, which picks up a few months after where the 4th book leaves you.
The series is primarily an Urban Fantasy but has Sci-Fi elements. It REALLY becomes a full-on Urban by book 5. Arguably, books 1-4 are more of a Fantasy Adventure, but I had the mindset of Urban, so...there you go.
The series will begin in August 2025 and end in January 2027
